Website Incorporation of Weavers of Glasgow

The Weavers Industry & Education Awards were introduced in 2015 on the 500th Anniversary of the founding of the Incorporation, by the then Deacon, Kenneth McDonald. Since that time the Awards have grown in stature and purpose. Full details of this years awards and downloadable application forms available below.

We will be offering four award categories :

1. Lifelong Contribution to the Textile Industry.

2. Best new Woven Fabric or Product 2024.

3. Material Innovation Award.

4. Best use Colour in a constructed Textile (Students only award)

Submissions will be entirely digital with a cost of entry for each category at £10, payable via bank transfer.

1. Lifelong Contribution to the Textile Industry

Awarded to an individual who has given long service to a company, educational institution or textile business, promoting good practice in the production, design or marketing of textile and fabrics. Nominators will always be treated with utmost confidence and the submission for an individual nominated should be accompanied by a full curriculum vitae where possible.

It is not possible to self-nominate. There is no fee to nominate

2. Best new woven Fabric or product 2024

Submissions are judged on design, technical ability and understanding of colour.

Work must be available for exhibition at the weavers dinner (09/02/2024)

A graphic will be supplied for use on social media, to promote the design or product.

Prize: £500, certificate of merit and weavers medal.

Second and third prizes may be awarded at judges discretion

3. Material Innovation

Submissions are welcomed from anyone working in material innovation . This includes but is not limited to makers and designers working in: new processes, fibre development, UX design, digital fabrication and media.

Where possible the work should be made available for exhibition at the weavers dinner (09/02/2024)

Prize £500, certificate of merit and weavers medal

Second and third prizes may be awarded at judges discretion

4. Best use Colour in a Constructed Textile (Students only award)

Submissions are welcomed from undergraduate and postgraduate students studying constructed textiles (Weave or Knit). Entries will be judged on their use of Colour with special attention paid to any designs showing a novel approach to integrating colour with both design, technical Skill.

Prize: £500, certificate of merit and weavers medal.

Second and third prizes may be awarded at judges discretion


A single piece of work can only be entered into one section even if multiple entry fees are sent. YOU CANNOT WIN MULTIPLE PRIZES WITH THE SAME WORK.

Please do not include your name or any other identifying information (e.g. university, Business, etc) on the images of your entry as this will result in instant disqualification.

No refunds will be made to entries who fail to do this.

Please ensure you have labelled your main sample and that it is clearly visible. We do not ask for physical samples or technical details to be submitted upon entry but reserve the right to ask for them if the Judges require them.

Email addresses may be given to a third party for the purpose of arranging prizes.

Please use an email address which will not be terminated once you have graduated (for entrants completing their degrees).

Please check your emails regularly. If there are any problems with entry submissions we will do our best to contact you to resolve issues.

We reserve the right not to refund entry fees if we have attempted to contact an entrant on the email given and there has been no response.

All sections, except “Best use of Colour in a Constructed Textile” (students only) are open to independent designers, designers employed in the UK textile industry and students from universities and colleges. All entrants must be resident and/or resident in the UK.
4. ENTRY FEES: An entry fee is payable for each entry submitted. The entry fee is £10 per entry. (There is no fee to nominate a person for the Lifetime contribution category) Entries for which no entrance fee has been received will not be entered into the competition.

Please supply proof of payment alongside your submission.

Please use “Weavers Awards” and your initials as reference.


A completed application form and a maximum of 3 images may be submitted for each entry, one of which must be a close-up image of the Main Sample and must be labelled as such. The other images should show your research and development process. The file must be submitted as a single PDF. Physical Samples and technical details are not required initially but we reserve the right to ask for them if required by the Judges.


Whilst the copyright of all work submitted to the Design Competition remains with the entrant, The Incorporation of Weavers, Glasgow reserves the right to use the work in publicity material, published both in hard copy and on the internet.


The Judges’ decision shall in all cases be final and binding. The Judges’ reserve the right to satisfy themselves of the authenticity of any work. If an entry is considered to be an infringement of the Conditions of Entry it will be disqualified without refund.


The Winners’ List will be published on the Incorporation of Weavers Glasgow website and we will attempt to notify prize winners by email
