The Toonspeak Performance Collective is now launching and may be the opportunityyou have been looking for.
Want to know more…?
Running from Jan 2022 – December 2023, the main aim is to provide the opportunity for you to launch your arts industry career whilst being mentored; developing your own practice; forming a company and realising the overall ambition of the collective.
Over this two year period, the Toonspeak Performance Collective will create two new pieces of work whilst benefiting from the knowledge and passion of industry professionals, supported by the award winning Toonspeak Young People’s Theatre.
One of these pieces may be a work-in-progress before being developed further.
Planned within a project budget, there may be opportunities to present within a theatre space, non-performance space or a site specific event.
This is not a drama class – you will already have basic skills, knowledge, understanding and experience of the creation of work within a theatre or Arts environment.
There will be a maximum of 12 collective members, from differing artistic disciplines. The Collective will be recruited from three workshop evenings. We are looking for a group of individuals who can create work together, whilst being supported throughout their tenure together.
As well as actors / performers, we are also seeking those with interests in other areas, for example directing; producing; writing; technical & production arts; composition; design….or any other relevant arts field.
We understand that 2 years is a long commitment and that some of you may not
progress over the entire period. We are also aware you will have other commitments. However it is imperative that the group form a professional company dynamic. We believe that a two year commitment and investment from you, creating the goals of the collective, will allow the group to integrate, develop and create work together. We don’t expect that you’ll work together every week – there will always be periods of no activity as well as points within the term which are very busy, especially when producing new work. However, we’ll be planning in advance and taking all of this in to account.
To start, from January 2022 until the end of March 2022, we’ll meet six times – once every fortnight, to allow us to figure out the journey together! There is a degree of flexibility of course, and we’ll take into account your personal circumstances and other commitments. Throughout the time together, you will work with professional artists appropriate for the work the collective is creating. These artists (for example directors; vocal coaches; writers; set designers; lighting designers; producers; spoken word artists; composers; sound designers; stage combat directors) will excel in their own arts career, as well as having a proven track record in participatory arts whilst creating, performing, producing and/or touring work.
These artists will not be employed until we know more about the work you as a collective want to make. We will then look at a made-to-measure opportunity for the interests and passions of the whole group. You will therefore play a part in recruiting these professionals – who will mentor you throughout your journey.
