About Sapphic Writers

Sapphic Writers is a small writing organisation that provides avenues of support, connection, and inspiration within the global sapphic writing community by offering workshops, publication and performance opportunities, and news and resources aimed at this underserved community of writers.

With a team of exclusively sapphics, we work with sapphics only – which encompasses lesbians, bisexual, pansexual and queer women and non binary people who experience attraction towards people with similar identities – this includes asexual people. You can read more about different definitions of ‘sapphic’ in this blog post, written by one of our wonderful core team members. We are fully inclusive and supportive of trans women and non binary people, and happily welcome them into our work.

Submissions open

We’ve all heard the phrase, “chivalry isn’t dead, it’s a lesbian”—and we here at Sapphic Writers are excited to be doing our part to keep it alive and vibrant in our upcoming zine, KNIGHTS OF THE LAVENDER TABLE.  In this issue, we’re looking for pieces that reimagine and subvert heteronormative tropes for sapphic purposes. And yes, we’re especially interested in that much-maligned, seductive and dangerous, somehow never quite dead, notion of chivalry that has morphed over centuries to maintain its place at the heart of all our romance tropes. What can we salvage from the rusting (but still intact!) armor of the patriarchy?

We want your chaotic dyke Don Quixotes, your gay jock/cheerleader love stories, your Lesbian Avenger knights, your reinvented sapphic myths & fairy tales & rom coms & damsels & all the small moments when the butches in your lives have played the gallant gentleman better than any man could have.

Send us your previously-unpublished poetry, prose of all genres, and/or up to three pieces of visual art by 31st May. As always, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out hello@sapphicwriters.org . Please read the guidelines below before submitting.

We can’t wait to be swept off our feet!
