Website Magic has No Borders
We’re looking for a new voice of South Asian descent to contribute a short story for the young-adult anthology MAGIC HAS NO BORDERS. This anthology will be published in Summer 2023 by HarperTeen with a list of bestselling and critically acclaimed South Asian authors.
These stories will reshape, reimagine or retell the tales of figures from South Asian history, folklore, epic, legend, or familial stories, etc., centering on the teen years.
Stories in this anthology will span the breadth and beauty of the subcontinent. Some stories might explore romantic tales like that of Heer-Ranjha or Mirza-Sahiba. Others may twist tales from living religious epics, like the Mahabarat or Ramayan. Still others may revisit a historical moment or figure, reimagining the stories of standouts like Rani Laxmibai, an Indian queen turned rebel against Brit colonizers, or Razia Sultana, the first female emperor in Muslim history. We would love for your story to be a part of it.
The Submissions Call will open on December 10, 2021 at 12:00 PM EST and will close on January 31, 2022 at 11:59 PM EST. Any submission made prior to or after this time period may not be considered.
Applicants should not have previously published a novel-length work and/or should not be under contract to publish a novel-length work. Applicants do not need to be represented by an agent.
