Accelerator is an Imaginate project offering research and development funding, mentoring, producing support and performance opportunities for artists to create new theatre and/or dance works in progress for young audiences.
We are currently looking for artists living in Scotland who have previous experience in leading the development of new performance work.
Read the full call-out guidelines here.
Applicants don’t need to have made performances for young audiences before as long as they are excited about the artistic potential of creating theatre and dance for young audiences. We will prioritise underrepresented artists, forms and themes and have a budget to support access needs for the application process and for the project itself.
The selection criteria are:
– the quality and potential of the idea as a young audiences performance
– the relevance of the idea for children and/or young people
– the need for the work (is the work platforming underrepresented artists or ideas, and/or is the intended audience underserved by the sector?)
– the potential impact of this opportunity for the artist(s)

“Being Accelerator Artists was invaluable not just to the development of Untitled Discotheque Project – although that project did develop, and in ways we could never have anticipated – but more deeply to the development of Shotput as a company. The team at Imaginate were always responsive, sensing when we needed quiet time and when we needed to speak to others. Through the Accelerator programme, we felt like we were part of the larger conversation in society around the topics of the piece – sex and teenagers – and we were encouraged both to listen and to be bold.”
Jim Manganello and Lucy Ireland of Shotput, Accelerator 2019-21 artists
