Vanishing Point is offering 10 FREELANCE PROFESSIONALS who work in the performing arts and are based in Scotland a fee of £1800 to imagine, research and develop an idea they have.
Who Can Apply?
If you live permanently in Scotland, work professionally as a freelancer in the performing arts and have an idea, you can apply.
You don’t have to consider yourself an ‘artist’ or a ‘theatre maker’. E.g. You could be a technician, stage manager, producer, actor, director, writer, designer, costume maker, or meet none of these descriptions.
Because this initiative is aimed partly at supporting individuals financially, we politely ask you not to apply if you consider yourself to be inherently financially comfortable.
We would particularly encourage applications from practitioners who are under-represented in the performing arts in Scotland. This might include, but is not exclusive to, people who identify as Black, Asian, Latinx, minority ethnic, D/deaf, disabled, LGBTQIA+, people from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds and people without academic qualifications.
Past Everyone is Creative applicants can reapply.
Your idea could be anything: We are interested in ideas which rethink what live performance can be as theatre emerges from the pandemic, and/or how your practice could be better incorporated into future creative processes.
Here are some examples of what you might apply for:
· An idea for a show you would like us to produce
· Professional development practices you would like to undertake
· A workshop/series of workshops you would like to prepare and lead
· A conference or a symposium you would like to organise
· A technical experiment you would like to set up
· Anything else that’s interesting and relevant to you and your work, whatever you do.
Please note Copyright remains with you.
The fee of £1800 is for your time – to think about, research, prepare and compose your idea, or undertake professional development. It is not for you to make the project yourself, but to have some time to imagine it. It is up to you to quantify the time you would spend working in relation to the fee. Eg: 3 weeks of work at £600 per week/2 weeks at £900, etc. At the end, we will ask you to summarise or present your imagined idea and submit a proposal for how it could potentially be developed further.
We will organise two gatherings in Glasgow for the successful applicants, one at the beginning of the project in August 2022, the other in December 2023. The applicants will receive a fee for their attendance and will be reimbursed for travel costs (if based out with Glasgow). These gatherings will offer people the chance to meet and connect with other industry professionals. There will be presentations, Q + A sessions and lunch will be provided.
How to apply
Send an email (max 300 words), audio or a video (max 2 mins long) to firstname.lastname@example.org (please use Everyone Is Creative Application in the subject line) simply outlining the following:
· Who you are and what your basic idea is
· What your long-term goals are and how this will help support you in what you want to do / who you want to be / where you want to go
Don’t spend long on your application. Just an email/audio/video expressing your idea will be enough. You can be as brief and impulsive as you like.
If you would like to apply in a different format, please contact us at email@example.com and we can discuss this with you.
Closing date for submissions: 5pm on Monday 18 July 2022
Successful applicants notified: by 5pm on Friday 5 August 2022
Unsuccessful applicants notified: by 5pm on Monday 15 August 2022*
There will be no requirement for interviews.
Decisions will be made by Vanishing Point staff plus two other panelists.
