New opportunities to join the Deveron Projects team
As part of the Culture Collective programme, Deveron Projects is inviting artists based in Scotland to work with us from 2021-23 through three open calls: Room to Fail; Room to Grow; Room to do anything you like (released soon).

The Culture Collective is a network of creative practitioners, organisations and communities, working together to create a positive difference both locally and nationally.

/ Open Call: Room to Grow
Artist in Residence (Culture Collective)

We’re looking for artists based in Scotland to work with us over the next 18 months to explore the relationship between art and ecology; our green spaces at Deveron Projects and in the town; how we can share these as community resources, for pleasure, food production and medicine; how plants and growing points to history/gaps in history. Read the full brief here.

/ Open Call: Room to Fail
Artist in Residence (Culture Collective)

We’re looking for artists based in Scotland to work with us over the next 18 months to explore themes of governance, de/re-growth, care and prosperity in the visual arts sector, using Deveron Projects as a point of reference and an opportunity to test new ideas.
The artists selected will develop a programme of varied outcomes in collaboration with the team and other contributors. The artist(s) should have a keen interest in socially engaged art and community engaged arts practice. Read the full brief here.

Apply to our Open Calls:
Deadline for expressions of interest: 1 August 2021
Deadline for applications: 22 August 2021
Eligibility: Artists must be based in Scotland and outside of full-time education
Fee: £18,380 (Scottish Artist Union rates for 5+ years experience)
The fee is equivalent to six months, full-time, but we welcome proposals for how to spend that time over an 18-month period.

Please note: we have a timescale in mind for these projects for both seasonable and practical reasons. We hope for some of Room to Grow to take place over Spring and Summer months in 2022 to make the most of the growing season; and since working with the team over as long a period of possible will be a benefit to Room to Fail, we hope for it to start at the beginning of our new programme (October 2021) with a conclusion/revisit at the end (January 2023). This could simply be a check-out workshop/meeting.

Production budget: Up to £10,000 (in agreement with Deveron Projects)
Other resources: Accommodation will be provided in kind for residents and collaborators.
We are inviting expressions of interest in this call, prior to a full application. In the next stage, we’ll invite artists/collectives to submit a full application, offering a fee of £250 to each applicant.

In your expression of interest, please include:
– Approximately 1 A4 page outlining how your practice has addressed these themes and what you would like to explore through this project. Please reference past or existing work (through images, links or a portfolio etc).
– a proposed schedule
This could be a 6-month, full-time residency, or any alternative arrangement for that amount of time. We welcome some remote working but please note that presence in Huntly is important.

Applications can also be made as a video or audio recording.  Expressions of interest should be sent to Natalia at If you’d like to discuss this opportunity please email Natalia or call 01466 794 494. We encourage you to get in touch.
