Studio Mama with Debbie Young – Studio Visit
October 22 @ 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm
This month we are Glasgow-bound to chat with Debbie Young, an award-winning artist and founder of Studio Mama, an independently run ceramics studio which began in response to the issues faced by creatives – namely high costs and a lack of support.
Studio Mama offers affordable kiln hire (without membership), workshops, expertise and bespoke commissions. Clients include The Centre for Contemporary Arts, Glasgow and the Glasgow School of Art. Studio Mama most recently exhibited in Glasgow International Festival 2021.
Join us as Debbie takes us on a tour of her studio, as we learn about her journey to date, her inspirations and creative process and get some insight into what running a creative business with premises really entails.
More about Studio Mama
Having been based in several smaller venues since 2017, as well as filling all roles in the company, Debbie has recently taken a leap of faith by moving into a much larger studio complex in Kinning Park, with the intention to grow the business substantially, eventually employing a team to further improve the overall experience of the client. A recent move to become a carbon neutral business has been made in purchasing a grove of trees with a website for people to donate. Debbie has future plans to begin repurposing and selling clay from Glasgow’s clay soil.
