Copywriting for Creatives: Enthusing Not Confusing

13/01/2020 @ 2:30 pm - 6:00 pm

$15 – $30.00

This workshop is brought to you in collaboration with Tron Creative

Doing what you do may not be easy, but at least it’s what you love. Telling others about what you do is a whole other kettle of scorpions. Are we being too vague, too specific, too weird, too internal, too wonderful, too jargon riddled? What do they want to know? Why can’t we just write “Honestly, what I’m doing is pretty great, please just give me the gig/money/role?” Why do our normally really excited and enthusiastic souls just want to throw the computer across a room as soon as we have to commit the wonders we create to a page?

No one enjoys writing about what they do, but after this highly interactive, hands-on workshop, you’ll know how best to approach every kind of application or proposal you’ll encounter without wanting to cry. Over the course of this 2.5 hour session, you will learn how to analyse each document to extract the key information, understand the audience and determine the appropriate voice, tone, language to respond to it effectively.

  • Learn how to decode applications and open calls
  • Understand who each audience is and what they want
  • Develop multiple copy voices and understand the difference in each
  • Tips and tricks for communicating clearly and concisely
  • Stop hating the writing process

Who it’s for

  • Theatre-makers
  • Film-makers

  • Anyone wearing all these hats at once

Theatre and filmmaker, Sandy Thomson has spent over 25 years writing applications, producing marketing copy and demystifying artist statements. Sandy is a passionate, animated, verbose enthusiast who could talk for her country about the work that she does and when it came to writing about the same thing, did it all wrong before she did started to get it all right. Now her track record of successful applications is impressive and she struggles to keep up with the projects she’s winning.
