Crowdfunding is both an art and a science. It’s a format that embraces the makers, the innovators and game-changers. And it’s a unique chance to form a community around the work that you do that keeps giving way beyond the initial campaign.
During this two hour, interactive workshop, we’ll look at the key considerations to weigh up when you’re contemplating a crowdfunding campaign. What are you really selling? How do you convert interest in your work to financial backing? What will your supporters expect? How do you frame what you’re doing for them? What’s worked for others and will it work for you?
Your host for this workshop is creative entrepreneur, Sandy Thomson who’s created, negotiated and funded her creative practice across two different art forms and in a variety of countries. Several of her projects in theatre and film were funded through successful crowdfunding campaigns. In this interactive workshop she’ll talk about the pros and cons of crowdfunding, what worked for her and what didn’t, and the different approaches to crowdfunding your project, work or venture.
- Learn about the practical considerations when funding a project
- Know how to gather a community around your venture
- Understand how to effectively crowdfund for your goal
A theatre and filmmaker, Sandy has spent over 25 years wrangling projects, creating teams and running successful collaborative ventures in a variety of financially hostile environments. Her ability to advocate for and secure support for her work comes from a passionate, well-informed approach that understands what value really means and how to monetise that. She’s created some spectacularly successful and some dreadfully misjudged projects in her time and learned from them all. Now her track record of major projects with both creative and business advocates is impressive and she has to move fast to keep up with the projects she’s managing.
