Creativity & Resilience in the Hospitality Sector

November 5 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Free

The last 7 months have seen unparalleled challenges face the hospitality industry. Venues are having to adapt to an ever-unpredictable marketplace with urgent and changing restrictions and unforeseen costs. The ability to continue trading, discover new revenue streams and be quick to pivot are now essential to the industry’s survival.

Join Glasgow based business owners Andy Gemmell (The Gate), Lewis Gill (Grams & Plant Bae) and Joanna Nethery (Five March) as they talk through lockdown, collaboration, adaptation, deliveries, opening new units and what could the face of hospitality look like in 2021 with host Claire Stuart.

More about Claire

Claire Stuart is a reformed PR girl, sporadic freelance writer and full-time sales and marketing gal and very occasional tarot reader. Here is a non-exhaustive list of things she enjoys: botanic gardens, record shopping, negronis, black coffee, a well-crafted cheese board, reading anything, podcasts, travelling solo and a colour-coded spreadsheet.

Connect with Claire at the Creative Entrepreneurs’ Club

More about Lewis

Lewis Gill is the owner of Edinburgh’s first raw vegan cake shop, Grams. You’ve probably heard about their delicious raw, vegan, clean, dairy free, gluten free, refined sugar free cakes, if you’ve ever been looking for a Instagrammable treat in Scotland’s capital. Lewis just wanted to make healthy food available to everyone, not just one group of people, which is why Grams was born.

More about Joanna

Joanna Nethery is co-director of Glasgow’s favourite neighbourhood restaurant, the stylish Five March that features a locally sourced and ethical approach to food. She originally ran Distill on Argyle Street (now The Crescent) for 12 years before opening Five March, but she wasn’t always destined for this industry. With a background in International Politics, she isn’t afraid of change and is always looking to learn to stay ahead.

More about Andy

Andy Gemmell is a drinks agency director and owner of the Gate in the east end of Glasgow. Originally from Greenock Scotland, his career spans roles as a bartender, brand ambassador and running a bar consultancy. He’s been training and educating bartenders since before anyone can remember. Now, despite owning and running the superb The Gate in Glasgow, Andy has never stopped stretching his educational muscles and has now launched Whisky Wonderland, a practical hospitality course dedicated to making whisky simple for bartenders and consumer
