Join this session to develop your skills in attracting money with Kieran Daly, Head of Market Building, Social Investment Scotland and Sandy Thomson CEC Advisor and Artistic Director of UK Theatre company Poorboy and USA Film company Squad Walk. Kieran will take you through the range of investment options, the current landscape and what investors are looking for. Sandy looks at what to include, and how to talk about it when you’re making applications and pitches to secure grants, funding and financial awards.

We are delighted to be joined by the founder of Coorie Creative, Mairi Breslin, Mairi runs a successful retail business in Stirling, offering weaving, spinning and wool, she runs a number or workshops connecting people with people and heritage crafts. Mairi will bring to life the challenges of having a dream and making it happen.

Mairi Breslin

Mairi is a weaver, trauma psychologist and successful serial entrepreneur. As a survivor of traumatic loss, she has faced significant adversity but has aimed to develop some benefit for others from her recovery experience. She has an MBA from Strathclyde University and a first-class honours degree and PhD in Traumatic Bereavement from the University of Stirling. Mairi left her academic career as a lecturer in mental health to set up Coorie Creative in March 2019 and has led the organisation through the current crisis, developing unique and profitable new products and ways of working.

Kieran Daly

Kieran has worked in social enterprise for over 15 years, and spent time after art school as a freelance community arts practitioner working with The Prince’s Trust and others. He has worked with creative freelancers in previous roles as Head of Learning at Hoxton Hall, a Grade II listed Music Hall and Theatre in East London, and as Programmes Director at creative youth charity Tower Hamlets Summer University. Most recently Kieran was Scotland Manager at Big Issue Invest, supporting early-stage social businesses with investment and support, and is currently Head of Market Building at Social Investment Scotland, Scotland’s leading investor in social, cultural, and environmental businesses. Connect with Kieran

Sandy Thomson

Sandy Thomson is a CEC Advisor, Artistic Director of UK theatre company Poorboy and USA film company, Squad Walk. She specialises in supporting emerging and established creative entrepreneurs to be resilient in tough times and sustainable in the long run.
